Return of Dimension Elevator
The second Dimension Elevator show.
The reservation system worked well and we had a much more steady stream of people. There
were never too many people waiting which was nice. A max occupancy of 20 seems to work well.
It was great to have Tim Brown in from Salt Lake City to share it with him, and get his help to put the DE together,
run the show, and take it down.
So many people helped make this show happen, thanks to you all from dandelion collective.
We are happy. We are tired.

Launch Dimension Elevator website
The new website has video clips from the first DE show, has more information about the DE, has a real front page, and
perhaps most importantly has some structure, a framework to grow with. (oh yeah, and it has a dev log, too!)

First DE Show!
Dimension Elevator debuts as a part of Spaceboat.TV's MEETSPACE series at Consolidated Works.
The show went great, the major suprise that greated us that day was a good one, due to
crazy machnations in the heavens above we were able to assemble the DE in the perfect Theatre space
rather than way too small Cinema space.
The show is a success. We are happy. We are tired.

Submit DE to online Virtual Museum Competition
Why not? It will only take an hour and we can set up at CONWORKS a little bit later.

Setup and Artist preview at CONWORKS
We successfully set up the whole installation and had it running by 8:30. This was
the first true run of the Dimension Elevator with four channels of audio and video.
Many of the Artists attended to experience all of the pieces.
Nice.

Finished creating the Show
Wow. that was a marathon of editing and computer mayhem. Tophers DV ports on his laptop were still not working. So Jesse brought his PC over and we installed the DE harddrive, then installed Windows 2000 on it so that we could use it.

Potluck for collaborators
A nice dinner affair and meeting time for all of the people who created pieces for the DE.

First DEFrame Setup and Projection [Phoenix Festival]
We brought the DEFrame a projector and three DVcams down to the Phoenix Festival, where we met up with
three more projectors and one dv cam to round out the playback system.
While Kerstin, Stephen, and his sister Evelyn tried to get the Frame and screens to stand up in a desert wind, topher fought the faulty DV connection on the laptop where all the clips were stored. By 3am, guy wires from another camp succeeded in stabilizing the frame. By using a distribution amplifier, we ran one DVdeck and sent the signal to all four projectors. While not the full DE, this was very successful. We all agreed that grass below and moon and inky night above is the real way to experience the DE experience. By 5am topher, finaly got one DE clip to export and we got it to run... sort of.

DEcam Day #1
The first day driving around town with the DEcam (mark I) and shooting whatever we feel like, out of the top of a car, under a pot of fondue, on a rollercoaster, on a parking ramp, out of a backpack, ontop of a head, feet. Evelyn, Debi, Jesse, Kerstin and Topher in attendance.

Birth of the DEcam !
Stephen and Alfred bringing supercircuits.com spycams meet Topher in the City with four DV decks, mad driving to find a hardware store ensues: Fred Myers on Broadway=closed, Lowes on Ranier=closed, Home Depot in SOODO=open.
A few drillbits later and jigsaw action in the MysteryMachine mobile workbench and VOILA: three hundred and sixty funking degrees of jumping fools in the 11:30pm

Dimension Elevator Re-Ignition
Topher learns of an Artist in Residency program in Seattle that matches the exact time he plans to take off
from work. And funny thing, the place has four Hitachi CP-s860 Video Projectors and a large performance space available to the artists.

nothing
Nothing really going on with DE, dandelion collective focusses on a new project: SOURCE.

first proposal: REJECTED
After a few weeks with no response, we finally realized we were going to have to try another route.
|
| 4/4/2000 |
first proposal
Our enthusiasm took hold and we spent a lot of time considering the idea in more depth. We thought about the conceptual side of it, what such a device would be like, how it related to the state of the art. We also started to think about how we would solve the various technical challenges of the project. We decided on the 16x12 foot screen size, created sketches and 3d models of the frame structure.
The result was a web document: the Original DE Proposal.
We submitted it to a local art center.

first doc: DE Dream
Searching our harddrives, the first file found in reference to the DE is this text document. THis document came out of a meeting that Stephen and I had at the old Speakeasy Cafe.
