| This website was created to share travel stories in a way that allows and encourages people to explore places rather than just read about them. I want to give people a sense of where in the world these events are happening, and where these images are coming from. It was motivated by wanting to share my own travel stories in a richer and deeper way then just a webpage with stories and images. Now, I'm looking forwards to checking out other peoples travels. TravelPost is also an investigation into how different media (images/text/audio/video) can be linked together: see MediaBraid Dynamic Web Application The stories in TravelPost are not written by hand in html, they are created automatically, similar to how a Search Engine (like Google or Yahoo) results page is created automatically. The term "Dynamic" refers to the ability to alter the content of a site easily.. as opposed to a "Static" website with pages that do not change. TravelPost was written this way for several reasons: |

Post from the Road Authors can post their stories and media (images, audio, video) while they are travelling without having to write any HTML code. This means that anyone can post a story, without needing to know anything about programming for the web. Even people who do know web-programming are spared the difficulties of programming at a small, hot, crowded, SLOW internet cafe 50 kilometers outside of Nairobi. Stories and media are entered through standard web forms, and the information is stored in a database. Try out the TravelPost Author site. Multiple Views In TravelPost, the stories can be viewed and navigated in three different ways; in a timeline, on a map, and in a standard set of web pages. This is possible because the information is stored in a database. The information can be analyzed and displayed in different ways. Multiple Stories The same application can be used to host many different travel stories. New maps can be loaded in for new regions of the world. |

MediaBraid What if images, sounds, videos, songs, stories, words knew about themselves? What if they could communicate with each other and combine with each other to create new compositions? The MediaBraid is a media database system being developed by dandelion collective and Den of Photons. TravelPost is the first MediaBraid application. Be a TravelPost Author If you are going on a trip and would like to share stories and images while you are travelling, please contact topher to discuss the possibility of using TravelPost. -topherZ |
