In the city, we are all the creators of the environment in which we live. What is this environment made up of? What are we creating, and what impact does it have on us?

If you step back from the details of the particular building on the corner, the color of the car, the location of your friends apartment, there are more general patterns in the structure and motion of the city. There are patterns of organic and inorganic material, patterns of complexity and simplicity, people and machines versus a substrate of dirt, grass, air, asphalt, concrete. There are patterns of money, information, water and electricity.

This piece follows the patterns of physically displayed information, anything that is covered with text or images, everything that has symbolic meaning.

intersection explores this pattern it two ways. On an abstract level the shapes are interesting in their representation of the random/chaotic/planned nature of the city landscape, a different kind of information architecture. On a personal level, the shapes emphasize the pervasiveness of this physical information. To a degree, our visual space is a commodity. All of these people are trying to communicate with us, and the overwhelming message they are sending is: buy.
